- The College of Engineering K-12 Outreach Program is looking for multiple undergraduate students to work with us this summer during our elementary and middle school summer programs. As you are beginning to plan your summer, and particularly if you intend to stick around NCSU, please consider the following opportunity! CAMP DETAILS & RESPONSIBILITIES Each year the North Carolina State University College of Engineering K-12 Outreach Program offers two middle school engineering camps and one elementary school camp to rising 3rd through 9th grade students. The camps are non-residential and students attend each day for 6-8 hours. The camp provides students with a fun and positive glimpse into various fields of engineering by using hands-on, creative investigations and real-world building activities. The campers are broken up into teams on the first day. Each team will have a team leader. Team leaders will be responsible for taking team role, guiding campers in conducting the activities, rooting for their team, being enthusiastic and encouraging, redirecting behavior as necessary, and giving awards at the end of the day. Undergraduate students will work as team leaders for a group of students, along side elementary and middle school teachers, as well as in activity and material preparation. Staff work from 8a-4p during the week of camp. Lunch and snacks are provided. This is a paid position. Students must find their own housing, but we will assist where possible. REQUIREMENTS We are looking for dedicated and enthusiastic individuals in an engineering, math or science undergraduate degree program with an interest in outreach. Experience working with children in a camp or activity-based setting is preferred, but not required. Most of the available positions are with elementary camp, so it would be possible to take classes during Summer Session I and still work with our program. Submission of a resume and an interview will be required. Additionally, a background check must be passed in order to work with children. DATES Training Date: June 12th Middle School Camps: June 22-26 and June 29 - July 3 Elementary School Camp: July 6-10 Please let me know if you are interested in one of these positions, even if you haven't firmed up your summer plans, or have additional questions.
