Information About the Materials Research Society
What is Materials Science? Materials Science and Engineering research encompasses the study of the structure and properties of any material, as well as uses this body of knowledge to create new materials and tailor their properties for specific uses.

In the late 1960's, the Materials Research Society was formed in an effort to bring together people in this field. The Society's core principles are centered around interdisciplinary, focused symposia and fostering a greater interaction among researchers. Today, the MRS has over 14,000 members in the ever-expanding field of Materials Science. This membership includes more than 40 University Chapters, like this one at NCSU, whose goal is to generate student interest in the field. For more information, we encourage you to explore our newly redesigned website. Additional resources can be found at http://www.mrs.org.
