E-Council Created $100,000 Endowment!

The Engineers' Council has always strived to find different ways to help engineering students and have a positive impact on their lives. The engineering career fair was one of the main areas where we could help engineering students. As this event became more successful over the years, the council was inspired to find new ways to impact students' lives. Through this deliberation the council decided to create several endowed scholarships with the development of a $100,000 endowment fund. An endowed scholarship is special in the regard that it will last forever. These scholarships are created with the intent to help the council and engineering students for generations to come. The main goal behind these scholarships is to aid engineering students in their education, while also bringing in talented students to the council. By creating scholarships such as the freshmen scholarship and the study abroad scholarships, students will interact more with E-Council and help to keep the council strong. Any engineering student interested in E-Council or in traveling abroad is encouraged to apply! These are great opportunities and a good way to become involved within the college.

E-Council scholarships:

Freshman Representative Scholarship

One freshman student is selected by the council to serve as freshman representative. This student is chosen at the beginning of the fall semester and will serve throughout the remainder of their freshman year. The recipient of this position will receive a one-time $500 scholarship for the academic school year. The freshman representative is required to chair the freshman committee, participate in the finance appropriations and attend all regular meetings. If you are interested in applying for this position E-Council will be accepting applications at the beginning of each fall semester.

Scholarship for a Junior/Senior Active in the COE
Any student in the COE who is a Junior or Senior is eligible to apply for this one-time $500 scholarship. There is one award winner per year and the winner is required to come to an E-Council meeting to be recognized by the council. If you would like to apply for this scholarship please visit the engineering scholarship application web site.
Scholarship for Out of State Engineering Student
E-Council and the University has greatly benefited from out of state engineering students, however the cost to these students is significantly higher than in state students. E-Council would like to recognize these students and help to slightly mitigate the cost of attending NC State by offering one student a one-time $500 scholarship. The scholarship recipient will be required to come to an E-Council meeting and be recognized by the council. Students interested in this scholarship can apply at the engineering scholarship application website.
Study Abroad Scholarships (3 Available)
Engineering students interested in Study Abroad! E-Council has 3 Study Abroad scholarships available for you to travel anywhere in the world to study or participate in service events. Each scholarship is worth $500 and will be given to 3 engineering students doing a semester abroad. The only requirements are that the students selected come back to one of E-Council's meetings and give a presentation on their trip. If you are interested in this application please see Brian Koehler in 118 Page Hall to apply.

Other Endowments

Fundamentals of Engineering Examination Preparation Course (E 490)
In the Spring of 2006, E-Council created a $25,000 endowment for the Fundamentals of Engineering Prep. course. Each semester many seniors and graduate students take the FE exam, which will allow them to later on take the Professional Engineer's Exam to become a licensed professional engineer. The E490 class is designed to review the material on the exam, in order to better prepare student for the exam. This endowment will be used to help bring in professors to teach the review sessions and for extra materials that the course needs.
