1. SHACK-A-THON
Shack-a-Thon begins this weekend! We have 3 needs: build day, manning the shack, and raising money
-Build day pt 1: We will be building our construction Shack on SUNDAY, starting at 8 am (on the brickyard, near Harrelson). If you have some time Sunday morning (until 1 or 2 pm), come on out and lend a hand (or even to socialize!). If you have any work tools (gloves, hammers, screwdrivers, drill w/ bits etc.), bring them along!
-Build day pt 2: We still need a lot of materials to make this shack happen. If you know of anyone in the area who can supply any of these materials, please email Zack Hester (zahester@ncsu.edu) ASAP. Lumber needs: a LOT of 2x4s (pref 8'+), 4x4s, 10 sheets of 4x8 plywood, 12' square tarps or plastic sheeting.
-Manning the Shack: The Franklins' day to cover the shack is Wednesday from 8am until 8am Thursday (yes, spend the night with us!). If you have any free time, please add your name and phone number to the spreadsheet at this link
We would like to have at least 2 people at the shack at all times, so please sign up if you have even an hour to spare. Of course, you're
welcome at the shack any time all week long, but we need to cover Wednesday thoroughly.
-Fundraising: Of course, the entire purpose of shack-a-thon is to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. Think of creative ways to raise money at the shack! Extra credit for using our theme of disdain for construction on Hillsborough/campus!
All questions regarding Shack-a-thon can be directed to our service chair, Zack or to me.

Where: At the shack, on the brickyard
What: Pizza, Discussion of program updates and October Events, and games afterwards. The meeting will be short, but more helpful than these long listserv emails!

3. T-SHIRTS
The final design for T-Shirts has been submitted to the College of Textiles! Woo hoo! You can see the design here
Many thanks to Carl for all his hard work on this design. I know we're all looking forward to seeing how they turn out.
If you're interested in purchasing a T-Shirt (This is a Franklin Fundraiser), the cost will be $10, but you can pay when the shirts come
in. FOR NOW, please send your shirt size to me so I can get an idea of how many to order! Thanks!

Shack-A-Thon Design and News
Hey Franklins,
I would like to have meeting this Sunday for all who interested to work on the design (like noon or 1:00 in the Franklin lounge just email me), so we can hammer out our plans. Even if you don't think you know much about building like me, I'm sure that your presence would be helpful. Keep an eye out again for wood and tools.
The Jefferson council suggested the following themes:
- Fish bowl (doesn't have to round)
- Underwater theme (fish, etc)
- A frosted theme (igloo, ice, etc)
- Jail
Of these the Parks liked underwater, fishbowl, and frosted themes. The Harrison Hall idea presented by our council was not particularly popular, but I do want your reactions to these themes and other ideas (just keep in mind if it's realistic to build).
Also, we are trying to scrap up some money for a bid. So if you planned on donating anyway, now is a good time because the bid does go toward the final total. Later on, donations can be done online (that's where parents
and other family can go).
Lastly, the Hamiltons are alive and plan on joining us!!
Thanks,
Zack
Shack-A-Thon
Attention all Franklins!
It's time for Shack-a-thon, which is our most important service event. On September 20-26, the Brickyard will be filled with shacks, manned 24 hours a day by various student organizations collecting donations for Habitat
for Humanity. Last year the Franklins, Jeffersons, Hamiltons, and Parks raised over $2000, and we would like to continue this success.
I will later on send out an email with a letter for parents whose donations are of key importance to how we do this year.
Right now, we need consider looking for lumber supplies (probably 2X4's especially), tools, screws, nails, so please let me know if you or anyone you know can donate any of these supplies. Storage for these supplies can
be the Franklin Lounge but just let me know if you choose to do that.
Thanks,
Weekend Social Events
First: Up!
Friday night, 9pm, at the campus cinema they are showing Up!, an animated movie about an old man that, after his wife dies, takes to the skies hunting for a place that represents the couple’s love of adventure. We are meeting at Talley at 8:30, leaving around 8:45 for the campus cinema.
Second: Contra-Dancing!
Contra-Dancing is a mix of line dancing and square dancing, but a lot less countrified and a whole lot more fun. If you’ve never been, it’s a lot of fun and even if you can’t dance, they tell you step-by-step how to do it. The people are friendly and helpful, and even if you sit out, its still fun to watch! The beginner’s lesson starts at 6:30pm, the whole thing ends at 10pm, but you can leave sooner if you want/need to. $5 with your student ID. We’ll meet at Talley at 6:15pm, wear comfortable shoes! In all likelihood, you will be on your feet all night. Ladies (and Gents) if you have a skirt, you may want to wear it, though not required by any means! If you don’t have a skirt but want to wear one, I have a few extra.
Send an email to Kellie if you plan on attending, or log in and leave a comment!
See you Friday and/or Saturday!
