What We Do.

The North Carolina State University Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers has the goal of educating the next generation of HVAC specialist.  To do this, we bring in speakers from all areas of the HVAC field, including engineering consultants, facilities personnel, sales engineers, design engineers, and engineering managers to discuss relevant issues and how students should prepare for the next step - beginning their careers.  In addition, students will be able to tour NCSU facilities and local manufacturing shops to see HVAC equipment in operation.

The chapter encourages students to participate in student activities with the national ASHRAE organization, including attending (for free!) the ASHRAE Annual Meeting, preparing and submitting a project under the Student Design Project competition (for MAE496 credit), and other activities throughout the year.

The NCSU Chapter is led by four student officers, elected each fall.  The President leads all meetings and acts as the voice of the chapter.  The Vice-President assists the President in his/her duties.  The Secretary takes minutes of each meeting and prepares chapter correspondence.  The Treasurer keeps a list of active members, collects dues, and maintains the chapter finances.

Chapter dues are $21 per year.  $16 of the this goes directly to the national ASHRAE organization.  This entitles the student to student membership, a monthly newsletter and ASHRAE Journal, and discounts on ASHRAE Handbooks. $5 stays at the local chapter to support chapter finances (lunches and other incidental expenses).

For more information on joining ASHRAE, please contact the Faculty Advisor or one of the officers (see Contacts and Officers link on main page).
