Chapter History

The chapter was founded April 19, 1948.  At that time, ASHRAE did not exist in its current form, but instead consisted of two organizations - the American Society of Heating and Ventilating Engineers, which we belonged to, and the American Society of Refrigerating Engineers.  ASHVE and ASRE merged in 1959 to form the ASHRAE organization we know today.  Interestingly, North Carolina State University was known as North Carolina State College then, changing names in the 1960's when the University of North Carolina system was founded.  A copy of our original charter can be seen by clicking on the following link - See NCSU Charter.

About 1992, Manoel Gonzalez reformed the ASHRAE Chapter at NCSU.  About seven students attended the ASHARE Annual Meeting in Chicago in January 1993.

In 2005, Dr. Gonzalez lost his battle with cancer and passed away.  Dr. Stephen Terry became the Faculty Advisor with the goal of maintaining the chapter that Dr. Gonzalez worked so hard to form.  2005-2006 was a slow year for chapter operations.  The Triangle Chapter of ASHRAE was instrumental in helping to keep things going.
