Conference to Explore Forest and Ecosystem Health in the Fagaceae (Beech Family)
10/19/2009
The Fagaceae are an important group of forest trees distributed widely across the northern hemisphere. The conference will focus on three genera, Castanea (chestnuts), Quercus (oaks) and Fagus (beeches), though reports of work with related genera will be offered. The purpose of the conference is to review the status of recent genomic and genetic discoveries in the Fagaceae as they relate to forest and ecosystem health. The conference is being held at the NC Biotechnology Center in RTP on November 11-13, 2009. Oral and poster presentations will be made by speakers from USA, Italy, France, Germany, and Austria. A $500 research poster award will be given to the best poster presented. Graduate student volunteer opportunities are available, which allow attendance without paying the registration fee.
