A Letter from the Chair
10/1/2009

The new school year is underway and we have lots of exciting things going
on. Right now the student branch is in the midst of the Centennial Campus
Challenge, which aims to keep engineers together on campus for an entire
week - as if we don't spend enough time here already! It's been a good
way to work together as a team as well as meet other clubs with similar
interests.
The NCSU Student Branch is also gearing up for competition in the 2010 SoutheastCon event in Charlotte, NC. This year, the focus of the hardware competition is the efficient use of solar power and work has already begun on our entry. We are building a car that will autonomously make its way around an obstacle course while managing when it needs to stop and charge. Bringing 10 individuals to represent the Wolfpack in the hardware, software, and ethics competitions, the student branch hopes to assert itself as a thought and innovation leader among fellow Region 3 undergraduate schools.
Also planned for this year are monthly tech talks from leading industry professionals, student networking workshops, and the development of a mentorship program between IEEE ENCS members and young students looking to learn more about career development and to explore internship opportunities within the ENCS geography. All of our activities are aimed towards bringing students together to learn, work together, and most importantly gain an edge in today's very competitive society.
